Merry Christmas! Social Media Messages Gone Viral

It’s that time of year again and if you’re not sending out the traditional Christmas card or letter, social media messages are an increasingly popular medium for getting the message out. In this post, we check out some of the best viral messages from this year and one or two tools that can help you to set up and send your Christmas message.

Xmas Jammies – The Holderness Family

This video has gone viral on nearly every social network right now. A novel way to catch friends and relatives up on family news in the same way a Christmas letter would have done…

New York Couple Go Viral on Facebook

In a twist on the annual family Christmas card this New York Couple posed for their photo on different sides of the globe. He is deployed in Afghanistan while she is in New York, but they didn’t let a thing like geography get in the way of their holiday snap. This was the result and it has been a huge hit on Facebook.

Social Media Christmas Messages

Christmas Face

From the more unusual spins on a Christmas video, ‘Christmas Face’ already has almost 950,000 views on YouTube. (Does anyone decorate their face like this? Really?).

Westjet Christmas

And from the viral advertising segment, Westjet has had the kind of success with this heart-warming Christmas video that most companies dream of. Little did their passengers know the surprises that were in store…

Want to make your own?

There are some tools that are available to help you make Christmas videos or eCards. They may not go viral like the examples here but they are bound to provide your friends, family or clients with some amusement.

JibJab is good for videos and eCards and works by adding the heads of people you choose onto bodies already on their various video options.  Here’s an example from Autopilot Your Business (who could forget the year of the twerk!).

CardFunk is another similar tool where you can create cards and videos.

Elf Yourself is also similar except all videos feature you (and up to four others) as elves.

I’d like to thank all of you who have hung out with me through this blog, websites or social media during 2013 and wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. See you back here soon!
